When to repair and when to replace
Not every electronics failure justifies a repair. Older displays with cracked screens, failed backlights, or obsolete processors are often better replaced. A new chartplotter with current charts frequently costs less than a factory repair on an older unit.
On the other hand, wiring faults, connector corrosion, transducer cable breaks, and NMEA 2000 network issues are almost always worth repairing. These are fundamentally mechanical problems — usually fixable at much lower cost than replacement.

Most repair work can be done at your slip. We bring diagnostic equipment, common parts, and all necessary tools on mobile service calls. For bench work requiring specialized equipment — soldering, component-level repair, factory firmware updates — we may need to take the unit to our shop.
What if you can't fix it — will I still be charged?
Diagnostic time is always billable — you're paying for the technician's time and expertise. If we diagnose the problem and the repair isn't cost-effective, we'll give you that recommendation with no pressure to proceed. You pay for the diagnostic time only.
