Duck Island Harbor and the flats off Asharoken shoal quickly. Through-hull, in-hull and transom transducers picked for your hull and installed where they read clean at speed instead of clouding over.

NMEA 2000 Networks

A proper backbone with the right terminators, drops and power tap — the thing that makes the plotter, the engine data, the autopilot and the sounder all agree. Most of the intermittent faults we get called for come back to this.

Starlink & Satellite Internet

Cell coverage gets patchy once you are out past Eaton’s Neck on the Sound. Starlink mounted, powered off the DC side and set up so the boat has real internet for weather, work and the kids.

Northport Harbor is the middle of it — a deep, well-protected harbor with Northport Yacht Club and the Village Dock right off Main Street, Britannia Yachting Center a short run up toward Fort Salonga Road, and Seymour’s Boat Yard rounding out the waterfront. It is a real village harbor: moorings, a town dock, and marinas all within sight of each other, which is exactly why we can get a full day of work done here without moving the truck twice.

South of the harbor mouth you are past Duck Island Harbor, a shallow, marshy stretch between the Northport shoreline and Eaton’s Neck where a foot of water matters and a transducer that reads late is worse than no transducer at all. Eaton’s Neck itself — the peninsula with its own Coast Guard lighthouse — guards the entrance out into Huntington Bay and Long Island Sound, with the narrow spit of Asharoken connecting it back to the mainland. Once you are out past the Neck you are in open Sound water: fog, ferry traffic and a real chop when the wind runs against the tide. That is radar and AIS country.

Just west, separated by a narrow point, is Centerport Harbor and Centerport Yacht Club — close enough that a lot of Northport owners know it as well as their own harbor, and close enough that we regularly book both on the same trip.
