Terms of Service
The plain-English version: we bill for the time we actually work, we supply the parts we install, our labor is warranted 60 days, and if something goes wrong you call us first.
These terms cover using this website and having Long Island Marine Electronics work on your boat. They sit alongside our Privacy Policy.
Who You're Dealing With
Who these terms are between.
This site and the services described on it are provided by Long Island Marine Experts Inc, doing business as Long Island Marine Electronics ("LIME", "we", "us"). By using this website, requesting a quote, booking a visit, or having us perform work, you agree to these terms.
These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect and what we do with it. They were last updated on August 26, 2026.
The Site Itself
Using this website.
The content on this site — text, photographs, layout and design — belongs to LIME. You are welcome to read it, share links to it, and print pages for your own use. You may not republish it, resell it, or present it as your own work.
Photographs of installations on this site show real work performed by LIME. Boats and equipment shown belong to our customers and appear with their permission or with identifying details removed.
We keep the site accurate, but marine electronics change constantly. Prices, product availability, manufacturer specifications and lead times can shift without notice. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell at a stated price, and nothing here replaces a conversation about your specific boat.
How We Quote
Estimates are estimates.
Every job we quote is time and materials. We bill for the actual time worked plus the parts used.
Any dollar figure we give you — in an email, over the phone, or in writing — is a ballpark estimate of scale. It is not a fixed price, a firm bid, or a cap. Boats hide their problems, and the honest answer is that nobody knows exactly what a job takes until it is opened up. You pay for the work actually done, never a padded fixed quote built to cover our risk.
If a job turns out to be materially larger than estimated, we tell you before we keep going.
The Money
What we charge.
Our current rates are published on our pricing page and are the rates that apply unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
- First hour, flat. It includes travel to your boat (up to 30 minutes each way) and setup. There is no separate trip fee, fuel surcharge or setup line.
- Time after the first hour is billed hourly, in 15-minute increments.
- No minimum. A one-hour job is a one-hour job.
- Extra travel beyond 30 minutes each way is billed per half hour, per technician, timed door to door.
- Multi-day jobs restart the first-hour rate each day. That is the daily travel and setup recovery, not an added fee.
- Shop, bench, admin and research time, and CAD and design work, are billed at their own published rates — never the field rate.
- Parts and equipment are billed at cost plus our standard markup.
Equipment
We supply the parts.
We install equipment that we supply. We do not install customer-supplied gear.
This is not about markup. When we supply the equipment we know it is the right part, we know it is not counterfeit or grey-market, we can warranty the installation behind it, and we can handle a manufacturer claim on your behalf if it fails. None of that is true for a unit bought online from an unknown seller.
Questions about any of this? Just ask.
Getting On The Schedule
Scheduling, deposits and payment.
A deposit is required before a job is scheduled. The balance is due on the day the work is completed, unless we have agreed to other terms in writing.
We accept credit cards, debit cards, and cash. Credit card payments carry a processing fee equal to our actual cost of accepting the card — never more than 3%. The fee is shown separately before you pay. Debit cards carry no fee, and neither does any other payment method.
New York State sales tax is charged where the law requires it, at the rate for the county where the work is performed. If you hold a valid exemption certificate, send it to us before the work is invoiced.
Unpaid balances may be subject to a service charge. Equipment and work product remain our property until the invoice is paid in full.
Changes of Plan
Rescheduling and cancellation.
Give us as much notice as you can if you need to move a date. We work around weather, marina access, haul-out schedules and the other trades on your boat, and we would rather move a job than rush it.
If we have already ordered equipment specifically for your job, that equipment is yours whether the work proceeds or not. Special-order and custom-fabricated items are not returnable.
If we have to cancel because of weather, marina access or a safety issue, we reschedule at no charge.
Standing Behind It
Our warranty.
Our labor is warranted for 60 days from completion. If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back and make it right.
Equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty, not ours. Warranty periods, terms and claim procedures are set by Garmin, Raymarine, Simrad, Starlink or whoever built the unit. We will help you file a claim.
The labor warranty does not cover failures caused by weather, grounding, collision, lightning, corrosion from an unrelated source, work performed by others after we leave, or equipment that was modified, disconnected or reconnected by someone else.
Staying In Our Lane
Work we don't do.
We are marine electronics installers. We are not licensed electricians, and we do not work on a vessel's AC shore power system, AC panels or generator wiring. Our installations run off the DC house bank.
We also refer out autopilot drive units, hydraulic steering work, structural fiberglass, and the removal or refinishing of interior joinery. When a job needs one of those we tell you up front and coordinate with the builder, dealer or specialist rather than working outside our lane.
On Your Boat
Access and conditions on your boat.
To do the work we need reasonable access to the vessel, and to the spaces the wiring runs through. If access requires removing panels, headliner, cabinetry or upholstery, we discuss that before we start. Some of it we do; some of it belongs with the yard or the builder.
Older boats hold surprises — corroded terminals, undersized wire, previous installations done badly, connections that fail the moment they are disturbed. We are careful, and we are not responsible for the pre-existing condition of wiring, equipment or structure that fails during normal access. If we find something like that we show you, and we tell you what it takes to fix.
Please secure or remove valuables and personal items from the areas we will be working in.
The Legal Part
Limits on our liability.
We carry general liability insurance and we work to ABYC electrical standards. Our certifications and insurance are current, and we provide a certificate of insurance to any marina or yard that asks.
To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim connected to our work is limited to the amount you paid us for that work. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — missed charters, lost fishing days, cancelled trips, haul-out or storage costs, or lost income — arising from equipment failure, installation delay or scheduling changes.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Aids To Navigation
Electronics are aids, not autopilot for your judgment.
Chartplotters, radar, AIS, autopilots and depth sounders are aids to navigation. They are not a substitute for a proper watch, current charts, sound seamanship and your own judgment. Electronics fail, charts contain errors, and GPS can be degraded or spoofed.
You remain responsible for the safe navigation of your vessel at all times.
Staying In Touch
Communications from us.
When you contact us, book a visit or become a customer, we may email or text you about your job — scheduling, arrival times, quotes, invoices and receipts. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP. Details are in our SMS terms and our Privacy Policy.
Sorting It Out
If something goes wrong between us.
Call us first. Most problems are a misunderstanding about scope, or a part that failed — and both are fixable in a phone call. We would rather sort it out directly than have either of us pay a lawyer.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any dispute that cannot be resolved between us belongs in the state or federal courts serving Suffolk County, New York.
Updates
Changes to these terms.
We update these terms from time to time. The version posted here when your work is performed is the version that applies to that work. Material changes are reflected in the effective date at the top of this page.
