Something stopped working on your boat?
Most marine electronics problems we see fall into a familiar pattern — an instrument that was fine last season, a screen that won't turn on, a depth finder reading wrong, or a whole NMEA network that went dark. These aren't always expensive fixes. They need a proper diagnosis first.
We start every repair call with a full diagnostic: testing the network backbone, checking power and grounds, and tracing the fault before touching anything. That keeps repair costs down and gets your boat electronics working again fast.
Calls across Nassau County and Suffolk County. Same NMEA Certified MEI technician every time.
Common problems we diagnose and fix
- Chartplotter won't turn on or keeps freezing
- Depth sounder showing wrong readings or no signal
- VHF radio cutting out or not transmitting
- NMEA 2000 network — instruments dropping or not talking
- Radar not scanning or producing a distorted image
- Autopilot fault codes or erratic steering
- Transducer damage, fouling, or replacement
- GPS losing signal or plotting wrong position
- Wiring shorts, corrosion, or connection failures
- AIS not broadcasting or not receiving targets

NMEA certified marine electronics installers on Long Island
Most marine electronics work on Long Island is done by general marine mechanics or unlicensed handymen. Long Island Marine Electronics holds the NMEA Certified Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) designation — the professional certification specific to this trade. That means we know NMEA 2000 networks, MFD configuration, radar calibration, and transducer placement at a level general mechanics don't.
We follow ABYC electrical standards on every installation: tinned copper wire, waterproof marine-grade connectors, properly rated fuses, and clean cable routing through the hull. This is how marine electronics should be installed. It's not universal in this industry — and bad wiring causes real problems on boats.
We are also fully insured and hold Empire Wind NETP vendor approval — a credential for companies meeting the standards required for offshore infrastructure projects. No other marine electronics installer on Long Island holds this.
Reviews from Long Island boat owners
"Had LIME come out to install a new Garmin chartplotter on my 26 center console. They showed up on time, had everything with them, and the job was done in about three hours. Wiring was clean and the NMEA network was configured properly. I've had other guys work on my boat before — this was clearly a different level."
"Depth finder stopped working mid-season. Called LIME and they diagnosed a bad transducer connection and fixed it in under an hour. Appreciated that they were straight with me about what it was and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. Will be using them for everything going forward."
"They rebuilt my entire helm — new Simrad displays, radar, AIS, and a custom dash panel. Took two days and came out exactly the way I wanted. Everything talks to everything, the wiring is immaculate, and they walked me through the whole system before leaving. Worth every dollar."

Frequently asked questions
What types of marine electronics do you repair?
We repair and service chartplotters, fishfinders, depth sounders, VHF radios, radar systems, AIS transponders, NMEA 2000 networks, autopilot systems, transducers, and marine wiring. If it's part of a boat's electronics system, we work on it. We service all major brands including Garmin, Simrad, Raymarine, B&G, and Standard Horizon.
Do you come to my marina or do I need to bring the boat in?
We come to you. LIME is a mobile marine electronics service — we travel to marinas across Nassau County and Suffolk County and work at your slip. You don't need to trailer your boat or move it anywhere. Labor is billed portal-to-portal with a 4-hour minimum.
Can you diagnose intermittent problems that don't happen all the time?
Yes — intermittent faults are some of the most common calls we get. Instruments that drop out sometimes, GPS that loses lock occasionally, or a screen that resets on its own. We use network diagnostic tools to read fault logs and test connections under load, which often catches the problem even when the symptom isn't currently active.
Are you NMEA certified?
Yes. We hold the NMEA Certified Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) designation — the primary professional certification for marine electronics installation and service. We also adhere to ABYC electrical standards on all wiring and installation work. These are not decorative credentials. They define how every job gets done.
How is labor billed?
All labor is billed portal-to-portal at $140/hr with a 4-hour minimum per service call. Travel to your marina is included in billable hours. There is no separate trip charge or fuel surcharge. Parts and equipment are billed separately at cost plus markup. See our pricing page for the full rate schedule.
Do you warranty your work?
Yes. All labor is warrantied for 90 days from the date of service. If something we installed or repaired fails due to our workmanship within that period, we fix it at no labor charge. Equipment warranty is separate and covered by each manufacturer's standard terms.
What areas on Long Island do you cover?
We service marinas across Nassau County and Suffolk County — from Freeport, Oyster Bay, and Babylon in Nassau to Huntington, Port Jefferson, Greenport, Hampton Bays, and Montauk in Suffolk. See our Nassau County and Suffolk County pages for specific marina coverage and service area details.
