Our Story

Who we are

Long Island Marine Electronics (LIME) is a marine electronics installation and service company based on Long Island, New York. We specialize in the installation, integration, and repair of navigation, communication, and safety electronics on power boats across Nassau County and Suffolk County.

The business was built on a straightforward principle: do the work correctly, use the right materials, charge honest rates, and stand behind the results. The marine electronics industry has too many installers who can hang a screen but can't build a proper NMEA 2000 network. We built LIME to be different.

We hold the NMEA Certified Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) designation and hold ABYC E-11 electrical certification on every installation. We are also the only marine electronics installer on Long Island approved as a vendor under the Empire Wind NETP program.

Our History

Founded by a working technician who got tired of doing it the wrong way.

LIME was founded by Dave, an Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate with over 20 years of hands-on experience in marine repair, millworking, carpentry, and metalwork. He started his career doing marine electronics installs on the side — and quickly realized the industry had a problem. Most shops sent unqualified technicians to do complex jobs that required real engineering knowledge.

After 25 years of running his own business and watching the gap between what boat owners needed and what they were getting, Dave built LIME from the ground up — focused on certifications, ABYC E-11 certification, and honest pricing. Every job is done right or it doesn't go out the door.

President

As an avid boater and offshore fisherman, I was constantly frustrated by the electronics installation industry in my area for two major reasons. The first was the lack of understanding how to run a company in general...multiple calls with no callbacks, hand scribbled vague quotes, no real scheduling of projects, installation time frames not given or given and missed. And then the second reason, the work itself: half crimped connections, no concept of galvanic corrosion, fuses not installed, wrong gauge wire, etc..

After several bad experiences, I started to complete the work myself with my own crew, and then that led to completing work on other boats and then before I knew it, what started out as a hobby became a business. With a background in both electrical and computer engineering, 20 years in boating repair and 25 years as the owner of a commercial furniture fabrication and installation business, I understand how to fulfill our client's expectations. And my crew is NMEA certified with ancillary backgrounds in mill working, carpentry, boat works and metal works. We take pride in our work and treat every boat like it was our own. We are not, nor want to be a volume provider as of this time. Our goals are to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction and be the best marine electronics installation team in LI. If this is something you are interested in pursuing, you are on the right webpage.

LIME did a full Garmin helm build on my 307. NMEA 2000 network, Panoptix sonar, Halo radar, and autopilot. Flawless installation. Everything talks to everything. 5 stars without question.

— Mike T., Grady-White 307

★★★★★

Had another "installer" mess up my electronics. LIME came in, diagnosed the wiring nightmare, fixed it correctly, and upgraded the whole helm. These guys know what they're doing.

Best in the business on Long Island. NMEA certified, professional, and the cleanest wiring I've ever seen. Worth every penny.
